What is the K-SEA mentorship program?

K-SEA is a long term offering (October 2021- May 2022) for middle school aged kids to engage in an entrepreneurial course with a focus on video game design.  The kids will develop a video game around a theme - e.g. environmental sustainability -  and learn the basics of development through production.

You (and another mentor) will mentor a team of 3 or 4, guiding them through the remaining sessions helping them progress on their project. We will provide you will targeted questions to keep them on track. Sessions are two Saturdays a month with some potential online meetings closer to the presentation day in May. We prefer to have a pair of mentors per team.

Who can participate/register in the K-SEA Mentorship Program?

Interested candidates should email jacqueline@kodeconnect.org. All candidates must submit to a CORI and SORI and must have reliable transportation. We are looking for people with tech experience, coding experience, teaching experience ---but all candidates should be enthusiastic about kids and their potential.

How do I become a mentor/mentee?

Our Executive Director wants to chat with you! Email her at jacqueline@kodeconnect.org to set up a time.

What are the benefits of participation in the Staff Mentorship Program?

Mentees benefit from the advising, guidance and coaching of a mentor.  The mentees can envision themselves in exciting career opportunities because of the example of their mentors. Those who participate as mentors benefit from formal and informal networking opportunities.  Mentors are also recognized by name in our social profile and website as well as receive a letter of thanks from the President of the KodeConnect Board.

What is the commitment for mentors/mentees?

Mentors and mentees are required to meet once a month on a Saturday for about an hour to two hours from October 2022 – May 2023.  They are invited to the Pitch Day and closing ceremony.
